I asked worri for three words and a name earlier tonight, and she supplied the words and name in the subject of this entry. I sat down and wrote up a short story based on those words and name. I'm trying to get in a bit of writing practice because in November I'm going to participate in National Novel Writing Month for the third time. I like my little story enough to share it, which I promise I won't do all the time. So here it is!
After sleeping until noon, reading for my midterm on Monday, watching two episodes of Bones and one of Buffy, I decided I should probably edit the first chapter of my NaNo fic.
So I did. It's now 2:10 AM, and I should get up early and go to church tomorrow. Blehhhhh, stupid muses and creative juices. Why must you be nocturnal?!
Anyway, before a doze off over here, I thought I'd post a snippet of "Chapter One: How it Began" to get a little bit of feedback. This is the opening (about 400 words):
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Just sent in my second to last final via e-mail. Last one is tonight from 7-10 pm (I know, horrid time, right?)
I have written soooooooooooooooo much over the last week. Let's calculate how much!
Chaucer take home final: 2094 words Chaucer paper: 3167 words Animals and People paper: 3328 words Greek paper: 2505 words In-class African American Lit final: approx 1500 words (8 pages of 200-250 words each)
Total: 12,594 words. In one week. Holy crap. And I still have one more final tonight, which will probably be another 1000-1500 words.
1 - I gave in. I signed up to do NaNoWriMo. Yes, one day before it starts. No, I have no idea what I'm writing. But I want to do it. And I still have to write my hp_holidaygen fic. Oi. I'm crazy.
And speaking of crazy, if you want to watch the progress of the novel, go friend crazylikealice, my NaNo journal. I'm going to spend the afternoon working on some character and plot things, since I should probably have SOMETHING before tomorrow.
2 - I have a new friend! I was on my laptop in my Fitzgerald and Hemingway literature class today, perusing LJ and the girl next to me nudges me. I look at her notebook and she's written "Sorry but I see you're on lj. Fanfiction?" I smile and nod, and she writes, "Slash, het, or gen?" She's a slasher, and I'm more on the het and gen side, but hey, fangirls are fangirls. XD Next thing I know, she's written "Hemingway/Fitzgerald" on her page and it was all I could do not to crack up. We swapped LJ names after class and are now friends! Hi, trailingoff!!
I suddenly want to write a fic with Augusta Longbottom and Minerva McGonagall as friends at Hogwarts.
Also, can a restaurant have babies? If so, I want The Cheesecake Factory to have my babies. So good. (Vegas loves, I thought of you while I was eating there.)
I'm taking a short fiction class this quarter. Our weekly assignment is to write a 3 page (about 1000 words) piece on a topic the prof gives us. A couple of people seemed interested in this, which I wrote for today's class. I may keep posting my stuff here if you are interested in reading it.
The prompt for this one was "family." Now, it's supposed to be fiction, but this one just kind of came out of my freewriting time last night. And, to be honest, I couldn't think of anything else I wanted to write. So this is actually nonfiction that reads like a journal entry of sorts. Concrit is welcome, and I hope you enjoy.
