Shisha bowl brands: find the right bowl for your setup

The world of shisha bowls has grown enormously, and today there are specialist brands catering for virtually every style of preparation. Phunnel bowls, traditional bowls, Turkish and killer-style designs, low-capacity bowls, models suited to Provost setups or Kaloud-style HMDs... choosing the right bowl is about much more than simply picking the design you like most.

The type of clay, bowl shape, capacity, hole configuration and Heat Management Device you use can all have a noticeable impact on how it performs during a session. That's why it's worth getting to know the different shisha bowl brands and understanding what each one has to offer.

Shisha bowl brands for different packing styles

On 1001 Cachimbas, you'll find bowls from national and international brands including Alpaca Bowl, Bengala Spain, Helium, Hispacachimba, Hookah John, Oblako, Glina, Solaris, Andalushisha and Kong, among others.

Every manufacturer takes a slightly different approach to clay, geometry and capacity. As a result, two shisha bowls that look very similar can behave quite differently once you start managing the heat.

Phunnel or traditional shisha bowl?

One of the first choices you'll need to make is the format. Phunnel bowls feature a raised central spire that helps keep molasses inside the bowl rather than allowing it to run down into the shisha. They're straightforward to pack and available in a huge variety of sizes and capacities.

Traditional shisha bowls, including Turkish and killer-style designs, use several holes across the base beneath the tobacco. This allows air to pass directly through the pack and can provide a different response with certain tobaccos and packing styles.

Neither format is automatically better than the other. The right choice depends on the tobacco, how much you want to use, your preferred heat management method and, most importantly, how you like to prepare your sessions.

Choose your bowl according to your HMD and pack size

Compatibility with your Heat Management Device (HMD) is another important consideration. Some bowls work particularly well with foil and a Provost, while others have a diameter designed for Kaloud-style HMDs, screens or other heat management systems.

It's also worth considering the bowl capacity. A lower-capacity bowl can help you use less tobacco for shorter sessions, while a larger pack gives you different options when you're looking for longer sessions.

How do you pack a shisha bowl properly?

Even a great bowl can perform very differently depending on how you pack the tobacco, the height of the pack and how you manage the heat. Learning how to pack a shisha bowl is therefore just as important as choosing the right model.
