What are Trypo shisha bowls?

Trypo bowls feature a design similar to a traditional Phunnel bowl, but replace the large central opening with a closed, perforated phunnel. This distinctive structure makes Trypo bowls an interesting alternative for smokers who want the cleanliness and easy packing of a Phunnel with a different airflow design.

How does a Trypo bowl work?

The Trypo design retains many of the advantages of a Phunnel bowl. The main difference is in the centre: instead of the characteristic open spire found on a conventional Phunnel, a Trypo features a closed central section with several perforations through which the air flows.

This design makes packing a Trypo bowl particularly straightforward. You can place your tobacco across almost the entire loading area without worrying as much about it falling through the large central opening of a conventional Phunnel. You can then distribute it evenly and adjust the density according to the tobacco and packing style you prefer.

Trypo, Phunnel or Tradi: what's the difference?

The internal geometry of a bowl directly affects how it's packed, its airflow and how it handles molasses. Among our shisha bowls, you'll find three main designs: Phunnel, Trypo and Tradi or traditional bowls.

Phunnel bowls feature a single raised central opening. They're easy to pack and help keep the molasses inside the bowl, preventing it from running down into the stem and making your shisha dirty.

Trypo bowls follow a similar concept, but close the central phunnel and use several perforations for airflow. This allows you to make use of almost the entire loading surface and makes positioning and distributing your tobacco particularly easy.

Tradi bowls, on the other hand, use several holes that connect the loading area directly to the bottom of the bowl. They require a little more care when packing to avoid blocking the holes and making the draw too restrictive, but their direct airflow makes them particularly interesting when you want to emphasise flavour. The trade-off is that molasses can drip through the holes and into your shisha.
