I actually think that there is a value to the tools. Wicca is not a non-materialistic religion; the spirit is not all. Also, as you may know, the tools are supposed to be invested both with meaning and with energy beyond the personal energy of the holder. (Of course, props are not everything, and my pointy-finger makes a great athame-- but I think that there are several reasons to use the tangible tools when possible.)
