Weird things

So! I just tonight found out that my brain short circuits The McGurk effect, which effect I only just heard of tonight. Not entirely sure if this is related to the stroke (the basal ganglia affect learning and this could be a part of the learning thing since my aural learning skills are now something like rewired) or just the fact that I spent nearly a decade and a half as an orchestral violinist who spent her time separating one string of sound from a huge wall of sound.

Anyone else find that the effect is, er, in effect for them? Maybe it doesn't work for you? My brain is of two minds (heh) but at least those minds aren't fighting for primacy. They just both agree that they're correct.

Dear Brain,

Please stop misreading things. I mean, yeah, it's amusing in most cases and appeals to my funky sense of humor and makes me that little bit less bored, but sometimes I really need to know what's actually there.

It's "America's Got Talent," not "America's Got Taint," okay? Let's get with it, now, shall we?

Much better, thanks

Got sleep last night. B made dinner (tuna helper, bless him) and I nearly fell asleep in my bowl. I was in bed by nine, with B laying down next to me and talking to make sure that I damn well LAID there and got sleepy enough to fall asleep when he left the room.

I am so keeping this man.

I thought I'd gotten over this side effect of the stroke(s) but I guess not, or it's back for some reason. ( Weird things your brain takes care ofCollapse )

However, today I seem to be much better caught up on the sleep, and much perkier. I've gotten some work done, and I have GOT to lay off the caffeine for the rest of the day. I'm not drinking any more than I have been in the last couple of days, but I absolutely have the caffeine jitters at the moment.Okay, I may go ahead and take that walk I mentioned in an earlier comment now. 20 minutes' walk should help, and I'll bring a good book along. One of the things that I like about being out here is that it's so quiet. You can always, ALWAYS hear when a vehicle (say, a GAS TRUCK or BUDWEISER TRUCK) is coming along.
I got the Ulster Linen sample card a couple of days ago, accompanied by their price list. The code next to the swatches only rarely matches a code in the price list. So, naturally, the color of linen that I'm looking into expanding into is quite nice - but I can't for the LIFE of me tell how much it is, or how I'd need to price it. Oh, joy. I'm not calling about that till I'm back from that walk I mentioned. Jittery caffeine does NOT help me to understand the obliging saleswoman's strongly accented English.
B called me around lunchtime from Big Lots, where he'd gone to pick up some small house-chore-related thing - and found presents for ALL of our smaller nieces and nephews, plus one or two for Meg. All under $25. Big Lots rocks.
