Please stop being so damned funny with the whole Palin thing. Tina Fey is so frighteningly good at it (the rifle pose was great, and I'm still laughing) that I'm afraid that you'll make people who otherwise wouldn't to actually vote for the McCain-Palin ticket. We are in desperate need of laughter right about now, so everyone's watching SNL either in its original time slot or later on the 'Net.
All of America knows that if McCain-Palin wins, you will stop your gut-busting parodying of Palin. WE DON'T WANT YOU TO STOP. IT'S TOO FUNNY, Ms. Fey. You're influencing the election by your excelling in your art. It's got to stop!
Therefore I propose that you, Tina Fey and SNL, announce that you promise to continue the Palin lambasting *even if they lose.* Really, it's important that you not play too heavy a hand in influencing American politics.
You're just too experienced at it. You'll make the lobbyists all nervous.I swear, it's like God knew she'd be Veep nominee and was Himself so dead set against it that He made an excellent and smart comedienne who closely resembled her and put together a comedy vehicle to be present and popular at *just* this time. Then just to make sure He intelligently designed the 'Net to this point, and made all of America want to watch SNL.
I've never been so damn ashamed to be a Tennessean. Never. ::sigh:: But y'know, go out and vote. Because at least I'd've made a %.0000001 percent difference, right? Right. All other aspects of this election, except the SINGLE aspect that I could not decide either way on, have all fallen out such that my vote would have constituted part of the molecules in a drop of water going into the overall pair o' buckets.
I'd just move my family, but the problem is, I fear, endemic.
I'm tired. Tired of religion in my politics, tired of ignorant reacting, instead of considered decision. I'm tired of people strengthening a government that is both stupid and paranoid, and expecting it to solve their problems with no forethought and knee-jerk reactions. I'm ... just tired. And depressed, and disappointed in my fellow man. Bed now. I could just weep.
And yet, here's my problem - I literally am so conflicted about whom to vote for that I cannot decide. This isn't a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils. I have never been this totally balanced in my dislike. I admire Ford for not resorting to outright mudslinging (that would be other "committees" on his side of the ballot, as is happening on Corker's side, which brings up the question of either's real leadership ability if they cannot exert even the control of charisma over their separate parties' committee advertising), but I can't support his stands on certain things that I find crucial. At the same time, Corker is ten kinds of shady. I'm not voting for someone who abuses their position, and on top of that I don't like his position on certain crucial platforms, either.
Well, referenda? Resolutions and proposed state amendments? Yeah, here's the thing - there, too, I and mine are not in any way represented. You know why? I'd have to vote for the status quo, which I don't in any way agree with. The status quo? Sucks. I don't support it, I support a change that they can't even BRING UP FOR DISCUSSION. The way that it's worded, voting to keep it is voting to support it. As to local referenda, even if there were any, I have not in any way been here long enough to get enough knowledge to vote on those. Tomorrow, literally six months in this county and town/village.
You might be of the opinion "If you didn't vote, I don't want to hear about it," lemme tell ya - I AM voting. I'm voting with my feet, because there's not a single option there that I can espouse. And if you don't want to hear me complain? Too bad. I was complaining WAY before the vote was possible, though admittedly not here. But you can ask my husband, who's caught me shouting at/arguing with the tv and the radio.
We need a filk, to "I Need a Hero," titled "I Need A Statesman."
