Need-to-know: B's mom is a sweetheart and buys lamb from her local supermarket at discount sales. She freezes it and keeps it for us for the next time we come down. They're not fond of the flavor of lamb, and the result is that we end up coming home with a medium-sized cooler chock full of lamb. This happened in our trip there before Christmas. Tonight I cooked one of the roasts in the pressure cooker. It is tender and tasty and good. I also made some four-cheese mashed potatoes. Mmm. Pop some of both on a plate for Meg, cut up the big bits, and put it in front of her. For once, she's not dismayed at the sight of meat on her plate (smells good, too). Get my plate. B having NOT got off work early at all, and in fact being kept a bit later than 5, will have to eat his later; he's already gone.
Meg: Mmmmm, Mommy, thank you for cooking this!
Me: You're welcome, Sweet.
Meg: Is this ham? (We've been eating a lot of ham, lately.)
Me: Nope. It's lamby bits. Yummy, tender lamby bits. (We're both quite glad it's not ham.)
Meg: Oh. ::takes a bite, speaks around bite:: You're right! It's yummy. ::pops forkful in mouth:: It's very yummy! (Read: "...and it's not ham!")
Me: ::nodding::
Meg: Um, but it's not tasting good in my mouth. Can I spit it out?
Me: O.o... No, sweetie. Finish that bite.
Meg: Mmkay.
She has eaten her meat, now - she discovered that the 4-cheese potatoes on top of the meaty bits make them taste *much* better. And one day, my daughter will remember her table manners without prompting. Hopefully, she'll also learn not to talk about not liking $food at the table, too....
