Descendants of Darkness (闇の末裔 Yami no Matsuei?) is a fantasy manga series created by Yoko Matsushita. The story revolves around shinigami. These Guardians of Death work for Enma Daiō, the king of the dead, sorting out the expected and unexpected arrivals to the Underworld
Is this for real? According to this, they're going to make a Tales of Graces anime in the Fall and they're going to remake Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia: Knight of Ratatosk as one game for the 3DS.
+I ordered the second season of Hetalia today. Deepdiscount has a sale, so I got both season 1 and 2 for about the same price as one season. Yay. I wasn't thinking of buying it until I saw those prices...Ridiculously cheap. DD actually ships for free internationally, and I was super tempted to ship the second boxset over to Korea. But considering the only thing that can play it is my computer, I'd be better off just downloading fansubs until I go home and can watch my legit DVDs.
+ My TV still isn't fixed. My boss game me a cord for it, but all it does is hook it up to local TV. THAT'S NOT SOLVING THE PROBLEM, PEOPLE. I don't care to see Korean TV; I just want my screen to not be warped. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it's something that can be solved without just dumping the TV and getting a new one or if the TV can be salvaged. My coworkers keep trying to convince me just to get a 300 flat screen and sell it when I leave, but I think if I can't get it to work I'll just have to live off of handhelds for the rest of the year and maybe get a 3DS once some games come out that I want on it. It really bothers me because I got this apartment exclusively for the reason that I knew it had a TV, and now not only does the TV work, but my rent is 60 bucks higher than my previous apartment and my wages are now 27 instead of 28. At least I am working 27 hours a week though... >_<
+ Speaking of new systems...the Wii U. Most retarded name ever, but the system itself has some potential to be interesting. High Def Zelda looks really cool, and I like the idea of having an extra TV to store video information. It cuts down a lot on what must be shown on the TV. Perhaps I should elaborate for people who don't know about this. The Wii U looks pretty much like a Wii with round corners, but in its controller there is a TV screen. This TV screen can work alongside your TV, perhaps showing you your item inventory and life points, or you can play the game on the controller if you can't use the TV. That's handy if you only have one TV and several people in the house that you need to share it with.
And Zelda HD is gorgeous.
To make matters better (or worse?) Skyward Sword isn't being ported to the Wii U. That means I'll not only get to play it on my Wii, the Wii U will also have a proper Zelda game on its system.
I'm still a little meh about Skyward Sword. I like the idea of living in the sky and whatnot, I just really don't care for the graphics. I'm sure they'll grown on me, but at this point and time I still don't really like them. Still getting the game though.
+ I'm going to Everland (maybe?) this weekend. I invited a bunch of people, but so far I haven't gotten any replies back about going. LAME. At this point I'd rather just go to Yongsan and binge on videogames then stop at Book-Off and look for more books/CDs. I did just get paid, after all. >_< I'm really thinking of hacking my Wii to play all the nice exclusives on it, and since I couldn't get it to work last time I'm thinking of just taking it down to Yongsan and having them look at it. I want to get my PS2 hacked too anyway. At the moment, I'm kind of depressed about being back in Korea, but I know this is the right place for me, at least for now. I wasn't any less depressed back in the States, and at least here I'm making money to support myself.
I just feel so...unnecessary. Like nothing would change if I were gone. Other than my few close friends, no one here or at home really cares about me. The only time they even talk to me is when they need me for something. But when I need them, they fall short. It's just depressing. And it's no different here, except in this environment I don't have my friends to make me feel better, so it's a little harder to cope with. That's partially why I just stopped hanging out with people. The more I hang out with them the lonelier I feel. It just works better for me to have a few friends who actually care about me rather than a huge lot who only call me when it's convenient for them, you know? Anyway, that's the stance I've been taking lately, as depressing as it may seem. XD
Starting to feel a little better. Originally we were going to go to Lotte World, but I don't think I should risk going out in the cold weather when I'm still feeling under the weather. My friend still wants to do something cool for Christmas, so we're still looking into things to do. Personally, I really couldn't care less about doing anything special for Christmas since Christmas doesn't mean as much to me when I'm away from my family. X_X
Work today was stressful. None of the kids were really into it today since tomorrow is Christmas. It's a little aggravating since most of the kids don't even seem to really celebrate Christmas, at least not in the way we do. But they were still pretty hard to control.
The other night I had a weird dream about watching Inuyasha. I never really saw it past episode 30. Back before I started downloading anime, I had two bootlegs with Inuyasha episodes in Japanese with crappy subtitles. But now I'm downloading the eps. Unfortunately, I'm having a really hard time finding the eps in Japanese. All I can find with seeds is the English dubs. While the dub is not so bad, I'd much prefer to watch the Japanese, mostly for listening practice, but also because I like Inuyasha's Japanese voice.
But Kirby Morrow....nice. Too bad it doesn't sound nearly as nice on Naraku as it does on Van.
Speaking of rewatching shows, I'm also currently downloading Samurai Deeper Kyo. I'm kind of disappointed with the more recent anime, so I'm thinking about checking out some of the older shows that I never made it through.
Are there any other anime you guys think I should check out?
I decided to take a trip down memory lane today with Weiß Kreuz: Gluhen, the anime responsible for helping me remember the alt key code for ß.
In high school my friends and I had nicknamed ourselves after the Weiß characters. One was Omi, the other Ken (we forced this upon her, poor thing) and I was Aya. As for Yohji? That's better left unsaid.
I downloaded the entire series of Gluhen since I was in the mood to watch it. I have it on DVD in the States, but that doesn't help me much in Korea. And because it was lulzy worth, I took screencaps! Yay! Most of this entry is about the differences between the first series Weiß Kreuz and its predecessor Weiß Kreuz Gluhen and how different the designs are in both versions. The majority of screens are from episode 6.
Please don't get upset by this if you're a big Gluhen fan. I actually love this series to death, but the poor show just sets itself up to be made fun of and I love a lot of fun doing it.
And that's it. Lame as it was, I had a lot of fun with this. Let me know if you think I should do something like this again and I'll seriously consider it. I've got a lot of series I really enjoy poking fun of. Maybe I should do Escaflowne next
Now off to see Tales of Symphonia Tethe'alla ep 3!
Current Mood: amused
Current Music:Petula Clark; Don't Sleep in the Subway
This weekend was my chillax weekend, after I wore myself going out to Seoul last weekend.
I played more of Muramasa. I beat Kisuke's story and saw the end. To be honest, I was a little disappointed. Though it was kind of conclusive, it didn't really show us anything. It just gave us a promise. If you know me at all and were there when I saw Metropolis for the first time, you'll know how endings like that just tick me off. XD But maybe it'll be better concluded after I beat the after story. Or at least we'll get to see them together at the ending... Geez.
I beat Kisuke's story in about 9 hours, at level 47.
Now I have to beat Momohime's. I'm at act 6, level 36 with about 7 hours and 40 minutes in.
It depresses me to think I'll probably beat this game in under 30 hours. Anyway, depending on how I like the game's ending, I might write up a little blurb about it. I can already think of things to talk about, despite the fact that I haven't beaten it yet.
So after Muramasa, I've got to go back and finish my backlog of games, including:
I should probably start with ARF and then go back to Eternia once I'm finished with ARF. I'd love to finish Rebirth, but I'm stuck at a puzzle and have no idea on how to proceed. Such utter frustration. XD --
I found out the other day that my cousin is trying to get rid of her dog because she "has no time for it". Considering she came through a family that had over twelve dogs so far, most of which they got rid of because the dogs had "problems" (ie it peed on the floor too much or it bit the kid), this was no surprise to me that the daughter was following in their footsteps. But it doesn't make it any less aggravating. This is kind of a pet peeve of mine; people getting rid of their pets because they don't want them anymore. I don't consider myself a tree hugger or anything, but if you made a commitment like that I feel like you should own up to it and keep up your commitment. Anyway, I hope for the dog's sake that someone takes it offer her hands and gives it a proper home so my cousin doesn't wind up bringing it to the animal shelter or something... >_< --
Caught up on some of the new anime series. To be honest, anime hasn't thrilled me much lately, but I'm bored and have nothing better to do (that's a lie), so I thought I'd work on seeing what's out. So far I've seen:
Bakuman- a guy tries to become a mangaka because he has this crush on a girl who wants to become a seiyuu. The World God Only Knows- a guy who's obsessed with love sim games makes a contract with the underworld where he has to make girls fall in love with him to remove lost souls from their bodies. Psychic Detective Yakumo- Cat-like Yakumo is psychic and can communicate with the dead. He uses this to gain moolah.
And that's basically it. I'm not particularly excited about any of these anime. The only two anime I'm really looking forward to are the continuation of the Kimi ni Todoke anime and the Saiyuki Gaiden OAV. Gaiden was my favorithe part of Saiyuki, so I'm looking forward to seeing it on the screen at last.
Thanks a lot everyone for your kind words in my prior post. I feel a whole lot better now. Complaining about it was kind of immature, I guess, but I was just so annoyed. And embarrassed. Anyway, it's great to hear your support. You guys are awesome. <3
I didn't have work today, so I played Muramasa instead. I'm on chapter six of Kisuke's story, with about five hours in and on chapter six of Momohime's with about seven hours in. Why is this game so short? ;-; Even though it's the last game I played of all my new games, I feel like it will be the one I will beat first. Anyway, I am enjoying the game so far, though it's definitely not as good as Odin Sphere was. The battle system is really fun, but the stories behind the characters are kind of vague. Like most RPGs it IS plot driven, but the plot itself doesn't seem very deep. I went through about four chapters today on Kisuke's story without even knowing, and so far Kisuke and Momohime's stories have not really intertwined much, other than random meetings at the hot spring. But nevertheless, it's a fun game. Here's hoping Vanillaware will release another like it in the near future.
Character-wise, I like Kisuke the most. I like Jinkuro and Momohime as well, but Kisuke's crush on Torahime makes him a win for me. I like the one scene where he asks the fox about his future with Torahime and then takes it back because it makes him sound like a girl! So cute, Kisuke. XD His love story is a bit more interesting than poor Momohime's, at least to me. Here's hoping they all have a nice ending...
After Muramasa I really need to get back to Arc Rise Fantasia. But I'm in need of somewhere good to level up, as my characters are not leveled up enough. Does anyone have any suggestions of good places to level up? I just got off Weiss' airship after meeting up with Alf and Weiss there, which should tell you how far I am.
Watched some of the edited Card Captors today. I am downloading the complete series in Japanese as we speak, so I thought it would be fun to re-watch some of the English TV dubbed episodes while I played Muramasa. I watched the one ep where Sakura and Julian/Yukito go into the star filled room at the high school festival. If I remember it correctly from the manga, this is where Sakura tells Yukito that she likes him, and here Yukito tells Sakura that though she does like him, he's not the one she likes the most; and that his special person is Touya (rargh! shounen-ai XD). Correct? Granted, if they did cut it I can understand why, but I find it a little sad. I'm a Sakura/Syaoran shipper, by the way. I like Yukito and Touya together, but only as friends since I'm not really big into shounen-ai.
It seems that Kimi ni Todoke is getting a second season. It's supposed to start in January. This makes sense as the series still has a lot of hype from the movie and the manga is ongoing. The end of the first season was a little inconclusive when it came to Sawako and Kazehaya's relationship, so here's hoping this season will tie things up. And maybe Ryu will finally get lucky!
The weather is getting colder at night. Hello, spring jacket. ;-;
Well, I can't say I'm for it, but if they're of age then it's up to them.
I've been super tired lately, and I'm not sure why. I've been getting enough sleep, and it's not the weariness that comes from not getting enough sleep either. It seems like no matter how much sleep I get I continue to feel this way. Oh well.
Lately I've been watching Kyou Kara Maoh!. I am on episode thirty-eight, which tells you how much of a life I have. The last time I watched it was when I was when I was a freshman in college, so it's been a while. This time, however, I'm watching it in English. Yuri Lowenthall. Good times! I really like Yuuri's Japanese voice, but Lowenthall, as always, does a good job too.
As far as voice acting goes, I absolutely cannot stand Greta's voice actor, and Hube's is pretty annoying at times too. But the majority is good, and even Wolfram's Izzy voice grows on you after a while. I still prefer the Japanese though.
I've also gotten further in Arc Rise Fantasia. After losing horrifically to Gula (seriously a one hit KO), I leveled up a bit and managed to win pretty easily. I feel like I've been getting more used to the battle system. Or at the very least I'm starting to actually take advantage of it. I never really messed with the gems before, so I was severely lacking in this section.
Not much more to say about the game other than the fact that it's super addicting. I really like the costumes, though I'm bummed that they don't work outside of the stats menu. Oh well. It's better than nothing, I guess.
Well, not really. I managed to do some translation work, both on DNAngel and Saiyuki. ASUKA's having its 24th anniversary or something (I didn't even know) and there was a DN special. Translations are on my hand of time account, at http://hand_of_time.livejournal.com. Saiyuki translations? Not there. I translated only because someone asked, and I didn't really like them enough to make them public, tbh. The scan quality was not the best, so I really didn't get a good chance to translate it properly. Not to mention, Saiyuki is so vague you can't understand what's going on without the scans, and sometimes it's impossible even with scans.
I have to admit too, I'm not the Saiyuki fan I used to be. Whenever I think of Saiyuki, I only think of high school and Sanzo's skin tight black shirt. I think Reload and Gunlock just ruined the series for me.
Been kickin' back with the old anime lately. I reported before that I was watching 08thms Gundam, and now I've also picked up Gundam Wing and Generator Gawl. I own GW on DVD, actually, but I've rarely seen it in English. Gawl has both English and Japanese, but since I've seen it eons ago in Japanese, I'm trying it out in Japanese. Gawl has Vic Mignogna's voice, and it fits him perfectly. The other voices are not that bad either. The one thing that does annoy me is the lack of consistency in pronouncing names. It's annoying enough when different voice actors pronounce the name differently, but it's even worse when the same voice actor pronounces the character's names differently. Consistency for the win, yo.
Other than that, I've been attempting to play Nostalgia for the DS. Nostalgia puts you in the shoes of a young boy named Edward, or Eddie as he's referred to most of the time, who's searching for his missing father. His father fell from his airship and so now Eddie became an adventurer to try to find him. I have my own personal thoughts on this, but I'll keep quiet for now. Anyway, he goes to the Adventure club and wants to register as an adventurer, but they make him go through a test first. He has to clear the rats out of the sewers. While there, he meets up with a gun man named Pad, who winds up befriending him. Pad is seeking someone too, and Eddie just happens to have an airship (his father's), so they team up. Eddie becomes an adventurer and they head off to Cairo, Egypt, where Eddie's father is said to have gone. They're hoping to follow his father's trail so they can learn what happened to the father.
The game takes place in our world, but obviously a different version. Eddie himself is from a well-to-do family in London. Apparently being an adventurer means you can be wealthy, have a nice family, and STILL go off adventuring. At the moment, we're a bit short on cash, which is why I have not been able to progress much further. Too bad Eddie can't sell his 400+ coat and buy something cheaper...
Nostalgia has no voice acting, which is probably good since Ignition licensed the game (see Arc Rise Fantasia). The graphics are really cute though.
Overall, the game kinda reminds me of Skies of Arcadia with the whole airship and airship battles. Regardless, I actually like the airship battles in Nostalgia more. I never really understood how the battles worked in Arcadia, and because of that I will forever be stuck at the first real dungeon, trying to get away from that monster thing. Nostalgia's air battles are like normal battles; only you're fighting with your ship instead of your character. Both Pad and Eddie take different areas, with Eddie ramming people with the big spear on the front of the ship and Pad shooting people with the ship's guns. Teamwork ftw.
Not really interested in the game, tbh, but considering it's one of the few games I have in English, it has a good chance of getting played at least a second time.
EDIT: Finally got around to finishing the Vesperia movie. Most boring move I've ever liked. There were some cool parts, and there were some parts that made me want to go do something else, but overall I liked it.
Update on my current life (because I'm too lazy to write an actual entry.
Went to Costco yesterday. The entire trip took about an hour. And to make matters worse, we boarded the wrong train and it took far over an hour to get home. Blech. I got a lot of good stuff though: cookies, toilet paper, tons of 1.5 liters of Pepsi, and facial wipes (good since Korean summers are super humid).
Had nasty hot dogs at Costco for lunch. They had a special two dollar hot dog set with a hot dog and a drink. I got orange Fanta, which is a treat since I usually only get Pepsi or Mt. Dew if I get pop. The eating area was terribly crowded, and we to nearly sit on top of each other so we could eat off of the table and not off our laps. I was relieved when we were finally done eating and could continue on with our shopping. I miss A&W root beers.
Came home and watched Zombie Land, which was a lot funnier than I thought it would be. I was originally against it because I've seen too many zombie movies with my cousin's friends (who are all big into zombies), but it was pretty good. The movie was funny, yet it had smart humor. They totally overused the swearing, but if I was one of the last four people on earth I probably wouldn't watch my mouth either.
Translated the May chapter of DNAngel. I went back to it a little today and changed some things. Overall, this was a pretty difficult chapter to translate, but it was a good one at the same time. We learned why Insomnia pulled Daisuke into the world in the first place and what he is doing with Daisuke. There was also a nice Satoshi/Risa hint. Satoshi: "Whenever you start to get tired, think of me". I have to admit, my inner fangirl was glowing.
Church today. I went with Charles and Jason. I really should have skipped out because I've been feeling rotten all day. Afterwards I talked to some of the people and this weird Korean man came up to me and was talking to me. He's talked to me before and it's always been strange topics. Or he's been bragging about his awesome job and how he lives in Songdo-gu (a new ritzy area). Today he asked me if I understand the conversation two of my co-workers were having and how I learned British English and Australian English. I thought both were remarkably odd questions since I'm a native English speaker and teach English at a hagwon. I hope I can understand normal English conversations. XD
Re-watching Vampire Diaries. It pisses me off that everyone is so freaking horny in this show, even the minor characters. It's like they can't last for more than five minutes without going to the bar or making out. I'm hoping the plot is good enough to make up for it all.
The next two weeks are school exams, so I'll be working a lot less. Bummer. I lost nearly a million this past month, what with my vacation and time off from work, so I'm not looking forward to receiving another low paycheck. I'm not really worried about surviving for the next month food-wise, but it does kind of suck.
Rewatching Orphen in English (apparently my DVD player plays ogms?) and checking out Kekkaishi in English since Vic Mignogna does Yoshimori's voice. I wanna see how well he does. I love the Orphen dub so much it's ridiculous. It takes so many liberties, but it's hilarious at the same time. It's really hard to take it seriously. And it's even better since Orphen's VA does the voice work for Sanzo as well... Dubs are great.
