Seriously. I'm just so happy. It was wonderful. I didn't really feel Collins, and Mimi's stage movements were a little stiff, but Angel left nothing to be desired and DUH MARK AND ROGER WERE GOOD BECAUSE OMFG ADAM PASCAL AND ANTHONY RAPP AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! *FANGASM*
They were signing autographs after (in the rain, bless) and it was all I could do to not explode. Adam. Is so. Fucking. CUTE. I'm grinning like an idiot just thinking about it again. All he did was make eye contact and I am being a ridiculous flailtastic fan but I don't care EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Other than Contact (and the slight reordering of the musical numbers/juxtapositions of numbers), I really like the play just as much as the movie. Maureen was kooky and goofy and I kept calling Joanne Tracie in my head and Mimi had a gorgeous voice and the Benny was no Taye Diggs (but hey, that's a lot to live up to). Also, the soloists in Seasons Of Love-- WOW.
The drive was pretty awesome on the way up until it got extremely rainy and stormy and gray and it was like that on the way back and yes, we did get rained on and sat in the theatre half-wet for most of the performance. By the time it ended, we were dry, but then we went back and stood in the drizzle to get autographs. AND THEY WERE SO TOTALLY WORTH IT. I think I drew a half-smile from a tired and kind of surly looking (although he was being perfectly polite) Anthony Rapp. I think. I was so surprised they were doing autographs after a matinee performance! That was so nice of them! Not the whole cast, of course, I only managed to get four sigs, but hey, that's more than I expected at all.
I did all the driving today, totaling up to roughly six or seven hours worth. Add in a full dinner from Sonic and having been up until 4am this morning finishing a book (which I'll get to in a moment), I am one tired puppy. I'm about to drink some water, set an alarm and pack it in until tomorrow's work. It's "Splash Day" and Ken asked me to stay later so I can learn how to lock up (even though I learned that from Taylor yesterday...?) for my upcoming late nights this week (*wail*) alone at the indoor pool.
And now, the book that kept me up reading all night because I literally could not put the damned thing down:
Furies of Calderon, by Jim Butcher.
Really slow beginning, like you're cruising along in third gear or so for like, 12-14 chapters. Cue the jump to fucking WARP NINE and it gets really, really good and doesn't stop. So good that when he gets back to a character, strings you along in their adventure for a chapter and then abruptly shifts focus, you want to know what's going on with that character so much it's tempting to skip to the next chapter about them just to find out. Insanely good, once it gets rolling. The first of five from the Library of Amalie. It's epic fantasy, so it follows a few of the basic ground rules (mysterious orphaned boy's parentage, characters who aren't as simple as they seem with ridiculous skills at crunch time, etc.) but the way the magic in the world is crafted (eheheh, you'll get the pun if you read it) is just phenomenal. I never would've thought of it that way. Kids of Eden is shaped in a similar manner, but only at the very fundamental level. I highly suggest it to those who like other epic fantasy of this caliber (*cough* evrymemry *cough* cherryfeather *cough* it's Eddings-esque *cough*).
*yawn* Okay. Going to curl up with the next book and a bottle of water and get some sleep. Ta.

Today was boring. Want to know why? Because I spent the majority of it either asleep or inputting addresses into my aunt's computer. The tedium of secretarial work will never cease to amaze me/induce a strong urge to run screaming from the responsibility. So, yeah, I've spent roughly 4-6 hours doing this? Reminding myself why I will never take a filing job at LSU, even if I need the extra cash. Spending the night over here since I've got some work yet left to do - the things that I acutally signed up for, rather than this bullshit. But this is my favorite aunt, so I'm not complaining out loud.
Dermatological news: the very top of my forehead is peeling, right next to my hairline. I didn't think I was going to get away with all that sun without peeling somewhere, so I suppose that's as regular as any. It's just gross. Gah. Sunburn is something I don't deal with often. (I'm gifted with melanin.)
The Biggest Loser finale was on tonight; Helen won it all! INSANE! No matter how much of a bitch Tara seems, I like her. Maybe that's the competitive bitch coming out in me that senses a kindred spirit, but whatever. She worked hard, but Helen, man. Dark horse! AND JERRY! OLDEST CONTESTANT EVER winning the at-home portion for 100k!! Frankly, I am fucking flabbergasted.
I'm going to work at the J tomorrow and the next day, unexpectedly, because Ken called this morning. -sigh- This is the slow beginning to how I begin working 40 hour weeks. Speaking of working, gotta go apply at Barnes & Noble. Anyway, bringing up work means bringing up my saturday road trip to Austin with Julie to see RENT!!! :D
CAN YOU TELL I'M EXCITED?
Yeah. I'm excited. I had to cancel working a party that pays an extra dollar an hour but I don't care! That's in four days! Eeeee! :D
No cable here at my aunt's means no Voyager tonight, which is unfortunate, since I've never seen Nothing Human. *pout* Ah, well. I've a feeling I'm finally going to cave when it comes to buying Voyager DVDs (as I don't want them to disappear completely while I buy other stuff that's more recent) this summer with my paychecks.

Whirlwind spring break is almost over! I can't believe it.
Last night was awesome; got to see Devyn! Which I hadn't for months and months. We saw Duplicity (after I drove out to Pearland. I STILL love driving. It's confirmed) and I thought it was good but Devyn and Amalie called that the worst movie ever. Then we had fun random discussion times in the Marble Slab next to it and I got a few pictures. Going to have at least a few to post as an album! Just have to get them off my phone. *grumble*
I'M GOING TO AUSTIN TO SEE RENT IN MAY I AM SO EXCITED
Countdown: 35 days
Me and Jules are going to make a day trip of it and see Adam Pascale and Anthony Rapp and see it on stage before it goes away and we're forty before a revival movement comes along.
Just printed my boarding pass for tomorrow. *sob* I don't want to leave! But I console myself with the fact that I'll be back in a month. Literally. Just got to get through one more month. I can do this.
I've definitely also confirmed to myself that LSU is where I want to be. Transferring isn't for me. I also think I've got my life planned out a bit more. My aunt's friend (and family friend) Butch is into Library Science and all that so I need to talk to him a bit more and maybe he can help me out with that. I might end up getting my undergrad English and Teaching degrees, then accelerate a Masters in Library Science afterwards in like, a year, year and a half and become a high school librarian. It doesn't sound all that glamorous, but I have decided that I truly do want to be famous for my words. And an idea literally exploded in my mind last night while I was waiting for Amalie to get her things together before I dropped her off at her dad's place. It's kind of awesome and I'll get it sketched out more before I show it off, methinks.
Dropped by Tess' apartment last night and ended up driving home at 3am. It was actually cool to not have any traffic between there and here, it took all of 9 minutes on Beechnut, basically. Wish I had gotten there earlier, though, there was Patron. *pout* But I did have a good time yesterday, so I can't/won't complain.
Still have to give you recaps about emotionality in Colorado and why I love my friendship with Rachel so much. Will do that when I have more time, probably tomorrow or Monday. I still need to catch up on Castle! I missed it for the March Madness final with the APD boys. I'm going to make them something nice. OOh. Something nice. Steph's birthday! And Meg's! Crap.
Okay. Gotta go watch Tropic Thunder with mom, spend some quality time and whatnot. I'll be skimming Watchmen, but hey. Family time is family time. Next time I blog, I'll be back in BR!
Love ya, Houston.

And I love her dearly, but she can NOT sing. She actually really knows this, and continues to sing anyway.
I think I'll update this post as the day goes along. I still haven't really studied for a damn thing yet, and my exams start Tuesday. I have a week until Econ, 6 days until Theatre, 5 days until Trig, 4 days until Astronomy, 3 days until Sociology.
Dude, paskettios . You JINXED ME. I have now resorted to my own version of the checklist. I hate you and your hilariously true procrastinations.
Alright. I'll edit this post once I've either studied Sociology or written my Theatre final paper. Or both.

MEME. Name a character from one of my fandoms, and I'll give you either (a) three facts about them from my personal canon/fanon, (b) a reason he/she sucks, (c) a reason he/she is awesomecakes, (d) five things that never happened to that character or (e) five people that character never fell in love with and why. You pick the character. I pick the letter.
A regret I've recently discovered: not pursuing my music. I am totally getting into all kinds of musicals and Broadway and Broadway musicals (imagine that!), and I want to sing but I can't, because my throat/voice/vocal chords are schizo. *pout* I used to be in choir and I used to dance. Amalie's now in a show that involves tapping, and I never expected that to come back at me with a pang in my heart. I regret not following up on piano lessons, and giving up on choir, and not performing anymore. *sigh*
Guess I'll just have to do it in college. Because that's what it's for, following those kinds of dreams, right? (I'm just going to go ahead and assume this to soothe my own regrets.)
Soooo... very few of you know what Ersatz is, and I'll explain in a nutshell for those of you who don't: an SVU fic about Elliot and Olivia and how they need to get together. Olivia-centric, a song-fic including the lyrics to Panic! At the Disco's Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off. Currently 30 pages long and four chapters completed. There's two chapters left, and an OC makes an appearance even before Elliot does.
Oh, and did I mention that I started it around this time last year? Yeah. The people who've read it are getting a little rabid; understandable since the last time I finished a chapter was back in May. Oops. ^^;
And now that I'm not stressing over NaNo anymore (*emotear*), I'm giving myself over to all the plotbunnies swarming around my ankles.
Gah. Up to and including the following tends to bite me at the most, and I mean mostinopportune times...
-Torchwood fic where Martha literally comes swinging in and drop-kicks whatever's about to kill Jack in the face and then joins the team -Bashir's story continues, tune up of Gypsy (the original story in which Bashir was intended to be a minor character... Hah) -RENT has been begging me to write something, anything for it... -A Doctor Plus Four: Donna, Jack, Martha and Rose in a Castrovalva remake. Apparently I'm forcing OT5 on people, but they know they want it -SVU fic for people who deserve Christmas presents
and things of that sort.
Requests? I'm totally up for writing anything at this point. Hell, there's ST: VOY fic floating around in there, House stuff... my brain's a mishmash. Mainly mash, but there's some mish in there, too.
Throw something at me -- I will even look up/watch episodes (if I can get my hands on them) of something I don't watch, if you like.
[ mood | bouncy ] [ music | Seasons of Love // Tango Maureen // Take Me Or Leave Me ] You'd think I'd come off this break getting regular amounts of sleep, refreshed and ready to come back to school, right?
Ha. I'm so kidding. (Big laugh there. Anyway, moving on.)
So I managed to squander away the break without getting anything done on my college apps-- and let me clarify. The college to which I wish to attend the most already has my transcript, SAT scores and full application. It was in on November 13, before their Financial Aid deadline. So why, you might ask, am I still applying to other colleges?
It's a question I wish to pose to my mother, who invariably will lecture and/or yell, and add another school to the list, insisting I need more backup options. Okay. I need a backup option. I understand that. UTSA. I know I could walk onto that soccer team, the campus is gorgeous and it's about 3 hours away. Makes sense, low tuitions, got it. Back up to the back up, UTD. Less of a campus, more like a UofH feel without being at home. Also fine. Cool. I'm set, right?
Ha, again. I'm so kidding.
But enough of my whining. Turkey Day needs a little homage, I think.
Instead of traditional meeting at a relative's house with a sort of potluck feel, my family (or some of them, anyway) opted to go down to Galveston and eat at the fancy-schmancy San Luis Hotel.
What. A. Fucking. Spread.
Buffet style without having to stand in a single line; a dessert table spanning the entire length of the back wall; a brunch/breakfast table if you weren't in the mood; seafood section in an enclosed glass room to the right; regular Thanksgiving day feast with all the trimmings and then some. AND PRIME RIB. God, that was really, really, really (I'm just going to go on for a while with this, so feel free to scroll down), REALLY GOOD.
And there was fruit and pie and more pie and cheesecake and German chocolate cake and an ice cream bar and I could go on for a very long time. It was good. And I didn't really take pictures of the food, like I should have, but I did get a fuzzy picture of an electric trumpet, yes, you read that right, folks. The guy (and his twin brother, that was a cool revelation) were playing jazzy, soothing, digesting music. It was so awesome, because I heard Besame Mucho, which I recognized from Cabaret Night, and it's like a guitar sounding thing coming out of a black trumpet with neon blue lights.
SO cool.
In other news, I managed to stay inside my house, not even venture outside for one millisecond for a full 60 hours. I slept for a good portion of that, but I consider that a feat in and of itself as well.
Then I went out to lunch with Marlee, chatted Liz up and watched some SVU season three and got myself thoroughly and excessively entangled at Amalie's until around 10:30.
Seriously, she was stroking my hair and putting me to sleep. It's dangerous to drive when you're sleepy. But that's not the point. The point is she wouldn't let me leave. And she was tapping for a good hour and a half of the time, AND she tried to do chemistry homework. Let it also be known that I killed her frog. (She was doodling and I couldn't stop giggling, and as such the black-inked frog was doomed never to become the doodle he could have been. It's always my fault at Amalie's house. Always.)
Today ended up alright, then, I suppose. Except Amalie can read my emotions better than I can. It's unsettling. In a good way, I suppose. I'm going to stop supposing things. I'm going to stop talking, actually. (No, I'm not. I ramble and this is a darned good track I've gotten on, haven't repeated myself once, yet!)
Managed to stay up until six in the morning TWICE since Thursday. Beat that. Also... I'll probably be up late tonight for no good reason. And I didn't get my photography done because it was shitty outside for three days straight.
Oh. My hair is pretty. :D It kinda gets out of control sometimes, as Liz will attest.
But besides my crazy hairs and mad procrastination skills, I did sleep a lot. 'Til after three in the afternoon, one day. I'm moderately proud of that.
As far as the title goes... it's my lament that I didn't get to write on my NaNo hardly at all. The good thing is I'm trying to keep going with it. Hopefully I'll crest 25000 words before the month is out. Lofty and pretty much unattainable goal at this point, considering I've only got about 10110, but hey. 50000 in a month is pretty ridiculous to start out with. I at least have a skeleton for where I want to go with it. This is more typing than I've done on it in the past four days. Damnit. *sigh* I was so hopeful, too. I even put off reading! There were Seven of Nine Star Trek novels to be had, and I passed on them!
Fucking November. *pout* (I'm not really mad. Just miffed that I didn't do what I thought I would.)
Also? Saw Transformers for the first time this weekend. *high pitched voice* Awesome! Double also; saw Live Free or Die Hard too. Yipee-ki-yay, motherfucker! Uncut version makes me soooo happy. Triple also: Bought 300. Soooo pretty. Commentary is also FTW. Also^4: Bought RENT, listened to the commentary. Adam and Anthony and Christopher giggle the entire time. It's FANTASTIC.
Anywho. I'd like to finish with a meme; it was the reason I was going to post, and then I realized I'd done nothing of substantive value for some time.
If you had me alone...locked up in your house for twenty-four hours and I had to do whatever you wanted me to, what would you do with me? repost this in your LJ. You might be surprised with the responses you get.
