The FydeOS project has announced the release of FydeOS 22.0, the latest stable release of the project's ChromeOS-based Linux distribution that delivers a Google Chromebook-like experience. The new release introduces a new quick share feature and changes the default search engine to Qwant (where available): "We're happy to bring you FydeOS v22 'Radiant Anatomy'. This release brings the underlying system from Chromium OS r138 to r144, improving stability while also introducing a few new features. We hope it makes your day-to-day FydeOS experience feel smoother and more seamless. Here are the key highlights of this release. Quick Share (aka Nearby Share). You can quickly send and receive files, photos and links between nearby devices — no cables or third-party tools required. During the transfer, you'll see the target device, confirm the request, and get clear progress and completion feedback, then open or save the content right away. Note: Quick Share works with devices that implement the Quick Share protocol (e.g., some Android devices and ChromeOS devices). Availability may vary by device model and region." | FydeOS, developed by Fyde Innovations, is a lightweight operating system that carries a Linux kernel, a browser platform and a container technology driver. It is very similar to Google ChromeOS in use. FydeOS supports the latest web application standards, and is able to run Android and Linux applications (by activating the included Android and Debian subsystems), providing a Google Chromebook-like experience. Users have a choice to use cloud services provided by Google, services powered by Fyde Innovations, or a local account. FydeOS is based on the open-source ChromiumOS and includes the Chromium browser; it is available free of charge for most standard Intel/AMD personal computers.

The FydeOS project has announced the release of FydeOS 23.0, a significant update of the project's ChromeOS-based Linux distribution that aims to bring a Google Chromebook-like experience to standard PCs. This new version upgrades the Android subsystem to Android 13: "We are delighted to announce the release of FydeOS 23 'Chromatic Cadence'. This release upgrades the underlying Chromium OS platform from r144 to r150 and introduces a new Android subsystem framework, refreshed system apps, and enhanced remote desktop capabilities for enterprise devices. FydeOS 23 focuses on strengthening the foundations of the operating system. These changes provide a more robust base for future improvements to app compatibility, system maintenance, and enterprise device management. FydeOS 23 upgrades the Android subsystem across all editions to Android 13 and introduces fyDroid, a new implementation for supporting Android apps on FydeOS. We plan to make fyDroid fully open source. Going forward, we will continue to develop this framework, progressively update its Android version, and improve app compatibility, performance and security."
