Trace Labs has announced the release of OSINT VM 2026.5, the latest version of the project's Debian-based distribution with specialist open-source intelligence (OSINT) tools to help find missing persons and reunite them with their families, designed exclusively to run on virtual machines. Unlike the previous release, which were based on Kali Linux, the latest one is derived from Debian 13: "We at the Trace Labs OSINT VM team are happy to announce the release of the Trace Labs OSINT VM 2026.05 This version migrates the entire underlying operating system from Kali Linux to Debian 13. This change reduces the overall image size and gives us tighter control over the final output by eliminating tools that don't support our mission. The Trace Labs mission is to crowdsource OSINT to find missing people. We don't need exploit kits, packet analyzers, or port scanners to facilitate this mission because we rely on information that's publicly available. Removing these tools from our VM image by starting with a clean Debian base allows us to focus on delivering a high-quality tool specifically designed for OSINT collection rather than a hybrid OSINT/red team tool." |
| Trace Labs OSINT VM is a Debian-based Linux distribution with specialist open-source intelligence (OSINT) tools to help find missing persons and reunite them with their families. It is provided as a set of pre-built images for VMware and Virtual Box virtual machines. The OSINT tools, which need to be downloaded separately via a helper script, include Email Search (to perform email searches via social media, breach info, and other sources), Multi Search (to perform searches over multiple sources, such as social media, domains, IPs, phone numbers), Username Search (to check username availability across multiple platforms), Social Media (to gather OSINT from popular social media platforms). Also included are Phone Numbers, Images & Video Analysis, Documentation & Capture; Geolocation & Mapping, among various other useful tools.

Quantian Scientific Computing Environment
A Knoppix/Debian variant tailored to numerical and quantitative analysis, Quantian was a remastering of Knoppix, the self-configuring and directly bootable CDROM that turns any PC or laptop (provided it can boot from CDROM) into a full-featured Linux workstation. The most recent version was based on clusterKnoppix and adds support for openMosix, including remote booting of light clients in an openMosix terminal server context. Quantian was an extension of Knoppix and clusterKnoppix from which it takes its base system of about 2GB of software, along with fully automatic hardware detection and configuration. However, Quantian differs from Knoppix by adding a set of programs of interest to applied or theoretical workers in quantitative or data-driven fields.
