Alexey Sokolov has announced the availability of the second release candidate for TrueBSD 2.0, a general-purpose FreeBSD-based live DVD. What's new? "Updated system environment and kernel to FreeBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE; fixed errors in system installer which were caused by incorrect detection of storage drives; created an official Subversion repository; created a non-official port of x11-wm/ion-3; created an overlay of the ports tree; changed the file system hierarchy; created skel files which are used for each new user; created a ports tree with patched versions of software; created a kernel module snd_hda_hack.ko for additional Intel audio card support; new prompt for the zsh shell; removed all network and audio drivers from the kernel and moved them into separate kernel modules; created nice highlighting for system console and kernel messages; updated all software." Alexey Sokolov has announced the availability of a release candidate for TrueBSD 2.0, a desktop live DVD based on FreeBSD 7: "TrueBSD 2.0-RC1 released. Release notes: Instead of a CD, a DVD with a big collection of applications (including KDE, GNOME, Compiz/Beryl, Amarok, OpenOffice.org) is used; migration to UTF-8 (except for system console); migration to FreeBSD 7; migration to modular X; support for Macromedia Flash in all browsers installed on system; auto-configuration of X server; 'uname -sr' now prints current version of FreeBSD, instead of TrueBSD, because it prevented building of ports; fixed bug with incorrect font size on some monitors...." The first stable release by the TrueBSD project development team is now available for download. TrueBSD is a general purpose FreeBSD-based live CD featuring the Xfce window manager and bundling a range of server and desktop applications, including Win32 media codecs and NVIDIA graphics drivers. From the changelog: "New: support for English, Belorussian languages for all utilities; algorithm for searching and loading language localisation depends on user settings; script for changing system language and font size in XTerm; saving profile to any available device (early only to floppy disc); script for installing TrueBSD on hard disk; script for network configuration; script for turning on OpenGL support for NVIDIA...."
