Univention has announced the release of Univention Corporate Server 3.2, a Debian-based, enterprise-class operating system for servers: "We are very happy to announce the availability of Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 3.2. Highlights are: the operation of the Univention Management Console has been optimised and simplified in a number of points, e.g., there are now simplified wizards for creating users and internal system users are no longer shown in the basic setting; UCS now provides a SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) identity provider - the external service is then registered via a cryptographic certificate and trusted by the identity provider; the Univention App Center has been expanded; Samba 4 has been updated to Version 4.1; Bridges, bondings and VLANs can now also be configured in the Univention Management Console...." | Univention Corporate Server is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian. It features an integrated management system for central administration of servers, Microsoft Active Directory-compatible domain services, and functions for parallel operation of virtualised server and desktop operating systems. UCS offers such features as a single sign-on portal and an app centre. One key component of UCS is the Identity and Access Management (IAM) utility which acts as a central solution for managing identities, roles, and groups. The integrated portal with Single Sign-On and self-service functions provides access to all IT services and applications and can work across blended Linux, Windows, and macOS networks.

The Univention project has published an update for Univention Corporate Server which introduces new security options, selecting password hashes, performing Keycloak monitoring and simplifies managing Microsoft 365 Classroom tools. "The latest patch-level release of Univention Corporate Server bundles all new features and improvements from the past months onto new installation media including a new authorization backend for Nubus Guardian, more control over password hash security, deeper Keycloak observability, and simplified Microsoft 365 classroom management for schools - alongside continued groundwork for the upcoming UCS 5.3. New with UCS 5.2-7 comes a major performance improvement for WLAN authentication at scale. WLAN authentication with username and password against the Nubus RADIUS service relies internally on an authentication helper plugin. In very large environments with a high volume of authentication requests, this helper had become a measurable source of CPU load, limiting how many authentications an installation could realistically process." The Univention team have published a new version of the project's Debian-based Univention Corporate Server. The latest release updates handling of group mailboxes and makes it easier to identify objects in the management interface. "The latest patch-level release of Univention Corporate Server bundles all new features and improvements from the past three months onto new installation media. UCS 5.2-6 brings highlights from Univention Nubus such as a new metrics endpoint for improved observability and technical details for directory objects in the Management UI and additions to the mail stack with alternative mail addresses for groups. When analyzing configuration issues or end-user incidents, it is often necessary to access technical information used in the backends, such as the Univention Object Identifier. To simplify the process of matching real names with technical identifiers for users, groups, and any other information stored in the directory service, the Management UI now includes a new section with these identifiers. This is helpful in several scenarios: if a warning or error containing a technical identifier is logged in a backend service, administrators can now search for that identifier directly in the Management UI and easily access the full information about the affected object." The Debian-based Univention Corporate Server (UCS) distribution has a new update. Version 5.2-5 introduces a few new features, including a restore option for user accounts which have been deleted. "With the latest updates for the connectors for Samba 4 and Active Directory, we have completed the planned functionality of the Recycle Bin feature of Univention Nubus on UCS. The Recycle Bin makes it possible to keep deleted objects in an intermediate storage location from which they can be restored. If a user or group is accidentally deleted, it can be fully restored from this intermediate storage. All internal technical attributes such as identifiers or password hashes are reset to their original state. The user can continue working immediately, and all connected systems retain the same technical information. With the latest errata updates, the Samba 4 Connector, which is part of the 'Active Directory-compatible Domain Controller' app, as well as the 'Active Directory Connector' for connecting to Microsoft Active Directory, have been extended with a restoration function. This can be used both with the 'tombstone' implementation that is active by default in Active Directory and with the optionally activatable Recycle Bin functionality, which serves there as intermediate storage for deleted objects." The Univention team has announced the release of Univention Corporate Server 5.2-4. The new version introduces unifies locked account statuses, drops support for PXE Server installs, and introduces some fixes for Keycloak: "As always, the new release contains numerous updates and smaller improvements. A selection: Synchronization of the 'locked' status of user accounts across Nubus, Active Directory and Samba 4 have been unified. This ensures that, for example, a lock set in Active Directory after too many failed login attempts also applies in Nubus. App Center has been improved in its handling of filtering proxy servers and will therefore support even more environments in the future. Several security updates for Keycloak were included, most recently a short-notice update to Keycloak 26.4.4 addressing an issue affecting accounts with uppercase characters in their names. Default values for the size of the OpenLDAP database have been adjusted and incorporated into the monitoring checks in Nagios and Prometheus as well as UMC. The Univention team have announced the release of Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 5.2-3, the third update in the 5.2 series. The new release allows for improved organization of users and computers in the organization's directory structure. "The Active Directory Connector was extended several months ago with advanced filter rules, making it easier to configure synchronization for only specific parts of the directory service. With the latest update, parent containers can now also be synchronized automatically when performing such partial synchronizations of the LDAP tree. This significantly reduces configuration effort, especially in complex, dynamic scenarios. In the Univention Directory Manager, user and computer objects can now automatically be assigned to the group stored in their 'parent container' when they are created. Previously, the default primary group could only be set globally. This new feature is the first step toward handling objects differently depending on their position in the LDAP database, and eventually also administering them with different permissions." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The project has published an update to its 5.0 series which introduces blocklists for the Univention Directory Manager. "A new feature in UCS is âblocklistsâ for the Univention Directory Manager (UDM). This feature allows UDM to block previously used values for specific attributes. One possible use case would be preventing the unintentional reuse of an email address, which could potentially lead to one user accessing another userâs emails: a user had the email address âsmith@company.com,â then leaves the company, and their account is deleted. Shortly after, a new user âsmithâ is created. Now, UDM can prevent the creation because âsmith@company.comâ would be used as the email address again. Blocking old email addresses occurs automatically when the feature is activated (it is initially deactivated) and the corresponding blocklists are created. Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The project's latest release focuses on bug fixes and tightening security. "In the last three months we have released 47 security updates, most of them from the Debian base distribution. However, we have also fixed security-relevant errors in the Univention packages, e.g. password leaks via the process list. We have also further stabilized the Univention Management Console (UMC) when connecting to the individual UMC modules. We have improved the way the Univention Directory Manager (UDM) handles inconsistent user capitalization. Some data is now updated atomically by the portal, which avoids certain error patterns, and the self service now translates the forms correctly in all cases." Univention Corporate Server (UCS) is an enterprise-class distribution based on Debian GNU/Linux. The distribution is transitioning to a new base, using Debian 12 as its foundation, and Unvention has published a new alpha snapshot to test the new technologies. "UCS 5.2 will be based on the latest stable Debian version: Debian 12 âBookwormâ. This includes new versions of PostgreSQL and MariaDB, Docker and OpenLDAP, among others. The Alpha version has already completed this step, all packages from Debian have been adopted and partially rebuilt with our enhancements. Especially for application providers it is worth to have a look already today. Early testing ensures that the app will be available in the App Center on the day UCS 5.2 is released. UCS 5.2 now also comes with Keycloak as our single sign-on solution. We have already described the long road to this here.
