The developers of iDeal OS, an MX Linux-based desktop distribution with focus on privacy and security, have announced the availability of a new major release, version 2026.01.31. This release marks a merger of the project's two previously available editions into one product: "The release of iDeal OS 4.1 introduces a significant system update - a single ISO image for both the 'Emerald' and 'Diamond' editions. Anyone who supports our project with a small donation, will be given an activation key to unlock all the features of the 'Diamond' edition. There's no need to download or reinstall anything, just use our new activation tool. A comparison chart of the major installed applications can be found here. All packages and applications have been updated. Linux kernel updated to version 6.12.63. General system optimization. Now available in the 'Diamond' edition: a Windows 11-like Start Menu in dark and light variants; MKVToolNix GUI, a set of tools to create, modify and inspect Matroska files; Sweet Home 3D, an advanced 3D interior design application; Subtitle Composer, perfect for subtitling, transcriptions and translations; Planner, a project management tool with Gantt charts." | iDeal is an MX Linux-based distribution, with various privacy and security settings enabled by default. Privacy and security are the main stated goal of the project, offering to surf, shop, trade and bank online with peace of mind, without advertisements, tracking, logging, bugs, viruses or unwanted disclosure of personal information. iDeal OS was formerly available in two editions, "Emerald" and "Diamond", but these were merged into a single product in 2026, with the extra features of the "Diamond" edition now only available to users who contribute financially to the project. |

iDeal OS, an MX Linux-based desktop distribution with focus on privacy and security, has been updated to version 2026.08.08. This release replaces Firefox with Waterfox as the new default web browser: "2026.08.08 - iDeal OS 4.4. The release of iDeal OS 4.4 is a major upgrade on the footsteps of MX Linux 25.2 and Debian 13.6. We are pleased to introduce the new official iDeal OS repository. The entire operating system and all custom applications are now maintained as native .deb packages via APT, offering clear benefits. Automatic updates - simply run sudo apt upgrade to get the latest features and bug fixes; clean system - everything integrates perfectly with the traditional APT package manager; verified security - all packages are cryptographically signed by the iDeal OS RD team; future-ready - apps and system bug fixes, configuration files, wallpapers, themes, icons will be published through the same repository over time. The new Liquorix kernel offers improved responsiveness for interactive systems, enabling low-latency computing for audio/video production and reducing frame-time deviation in games. iDeal OS is a Linux distribution based on MX Linux and featuring the KDE Plasma desktop. The project has published fresh media which brings the distribution up to date with packages from MX Linux 25.1 and Debian 13.4. The project's news page provides a release announcement that shares a list of changes and improvements since the release of iDeal OS version 2026.01.31 at the end of January: "The release of iDeal OS 4.2 is a maintenance update following MX Linux 25.1 and Debian 13.4.
